There are many ways for a country to interact with or influence the world of which it is a part. For thousands of years, nation states have implemented diplomacy through diplomatic missions, trade, embassies, sanctions, and even more hostile actions like open conflict. The United States is no different in the tools it has at its disposal to interact in the field of international relations. One of the ways in which the United States views its international relations with its neighbors is an option that is sometimes considered, if not entirely sinister, at least extremely crude. The use of covert actions by the U.S. government to force regime change in foreign governments has proven to be a solution. an extremely effective means of imposing one's will on the international scene. I will attempt to do this by explaining what exactly it means to resort to covert actions in this manner, in addition to briefly citing three historical and distinct examples of regime change enacted by the United States and its allies. Obviously, each of these events could, and does, cover its own book, but the succinct descriptions I will provide should more than be up to the task. path of American secret actions. ยป Why would America want to bring about regime change in a foreign country? The answers to this question range from deceptively simple to infinitely complex. The answer is simple: it would benefit the United States and its interests in one way or another. Instead of sending agents directly to Libya to fight Gaddafi's regime, the CIA was tasked with providing weapons and intelligence to the Libyan rebels. Ultimately, Gaddafi would be overthrown by his rebellious population, and with minimal effort on the part of the United States. In summary, the United States has many weapons in its arsenal to deal with a hostile regime. Usually this comes in the form of a mission from the Central Intelligence Agency to do what it does best. This has been done successfully many times in history and is likely to continue in the future. As long as there are foreign powers hostile to overthrowing and expanding American influence, the CIA will be there to undermine these nefarious regimes in the name of American interests abroad..
