Essay / The Gun Control Debate and the Second Amendment
Guns have been around for a very long time. People like having the freedom to do what they want, especially when they can own something that makes them feel superior. The introduction of the Second Amendment opens the controversial but highly anticipated opportunity for American citizens to be able to own firearms. Americans enjoy the advantage of being able to own guns for decades over people in other countries. People can buy guns and carry them in public. They own guns for many reasons, such as hunting, for protection, and simply to satisfy their desire to own a gun, but in recent years the issue of gun carrying has become a problem. There are so many people killed by guns in different parts of the country. This raised alarm bells and caused the government to decide whether to address gun regulation. These questions, once again, spark a great debate in America over whether the right to bear arms granted by the Second Amendment gave states the right to maintain militia units or gave people the right to own and to carry weapons. When the United States won the war against Great Britain to become an independent country, there were many conflicts between the Federalists, those who supported the American Constitution, and the Anti-Federalists. The ratification of the Constitution in 1787 made many Anti-Federalists unhappy with the government, as they feared losing their individual rights for which they fought so hard in the war against Great Britain. The Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution to guarantee the individual rights of American citizens. It contains the ten fundamental rights that every individual in the United States should have included...... middle of paper ...... which were set by the Constitution of the United States.
