Essay / Buddhism and science - 1899
Buddhism places great value on the search for truth. This fundamental principle allows science to be accepted because it is considered by most to be modern truth. Additionally, Buddhists believe in the evolution of human consciousness – this evolution, together with the truth presented by science, allows for a global acceptance of biological evolution. What's even more interesting is that in the Agganna Sutta, a sacred Buddhist text, Buddha explains that the world has evolved over time. Although there is no mention of biological evolution, the focus is still on evolution as a whole, both physical and spiritual. Tibetan Buddhism is known as the branch of Buddhism that places the greatest emphasis on reincarnation, which is most relevant to this research. Reincarnation is driven by decisions made in each lifetime and is essentially knowing that a person's spirit travels between material beings during different lifetimes. The mind evolves as one moves closer and closer to Nirvana, or perfection. Karma also influences the lives of those reincarnated, because this idea causes the consequences of good and bad actions in each past life to carry over into the current life. Overall, Tibetan Buddhism and evolution go very well together, as various Buddhist beliefs about spiritual evolution and karma, and the search for truth lead to the acceptance of science and evolution. Spiritual evolution is a key aspect of Buddhist philosophy. According to Bill Broderick in Cobourg Atheist, "spiritual evolution assumes that the soul or conscious entity that animates a human or animal body somehow survives death and returns to life in some form somewhat evolved. » The article goes on to say that over time and after countless reincarnations, a paper heart......iew=article&id=55&Itemid=62Pilgrim, PJ, "The Origin of the World", Buddhist Responses : The Buddha, his identity, his purpose and his teachings (2005). http://www. parami. org/buddhistanswers/origin_of_the_world. htmRatnaprabha. “Review: Buddhism and Science: A Guide for the Perplexed.” " Review of Buddhism and Science: A Guide for the Perplexed, by Donald S Lopez.
