Essay / The theme of innocence in the images of Dorian Gray by...
Dorian also seemed to have a problem with aging. After drawing a self-portrait of himself, Dorian made a wish at the beginning of the novel that changed his way of being forever: "If it were me who had to be forever young, and the painting which had to age!" For that, for that, I would give everything! Yes, there is nothing in this world that I would not give! I would give my soul for that! (Wild 29). The old adage says: be careful what you wish for, because your wish might come true and it might not be exactly what you had in mind. Dorian is a perfect example because when he returns to his portrait, the day after Sibyl's suicide, he notices that the portrait has changed. The portrait reflects his conscience. After realizing this, he decides to hide his drawing and never show it.
