Ruth needs her husband, especially when she discovers she is expecting another child. Although a child is a blessing and should always be a happy situation, it is expected to lead to even more difficult times within the Younger family. The family of five is already struggling to survive on what Walter brings home from driving, so adding another mouth to feed and a body to clothe is not what the family needs at the moment. Beneatha even goes so far as to say, "It's my business, where is he going to live on the roof?" ยป (Hansberry___). Ruth tries to tell Walter that she needs to talk to him, but the fact that he's so angry because Mom won't help him, he won't listen. Once again, Walter only worries about his emotions and needs.
