  • Essay / Paper - 731

I believe that my writing has progressed enormously since the beginning of this semester. Over the course of the semester, we were given many assignments designed to test our writing skills, and I believe that is exactly what they did. Some of the strategies I have been working on (and improving) this semester include: reading carefully and critically, understanding the writing process, developing and supporting my thesis, understanding the basic elements of research, and editing and revise effectively. Thinking back to the very first assignment we had, which was to write a letter to the principal of our school, there was a lot of room for improvement, and I believe I took advantage of this opportunity to improve my writing skills. These skills that I learned from this course have not only helped me in my writing but will also help me in future semesters. I will use these skills when writing papers and researching for other courses. During the last semester, I learned to read articles carefully and critically. When researching, it is essential to pay close attention to what the author is saying. In my article Barbie: a bad role model for children, this was extremely important. I had to sort through the information and respond to the author's tone to determine if the article was a useful source for me. The tone would determine whether the author took the subject seriously or not. This semester I also gained a better understanding of the writing process. For most documents assigned to us, we had to submit a draft before the document was actually due. This helped me see where I was with my paper and determine areas I needed to work on. One article I specifically noticed this on was...... middle of paper......ghly. Once I started taking my time writing and setting aside time to review my papers and specifically check for these errors, my grade improved significantly. In my last research assignment, I received a rating of “Impressive” for the accuracy of the document. This shows that I had few or no grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. I was very proud to see this improvement since it was one of my weak points at the beginning of the semester. Overall, I am very proud of the work I have accomplished this semester in this class. I believe my writing has improved considerably. Although my writing is not yet perfect, looking at the change over this semester, I can see that I have really worked hard in all aspects of this course. I believe this course challenged my writing skills and taught me to become a better writer..
