Transgenesis has a very high value in the production of medicines. In 1974, Cohen transferred the gene from Staphylococcus aureus, the one against penicillin, to the colon bacillus, which launched the study of transgenesis in humans. Then, in 1982, an American company called Lily managed to reengineer the colon bacillus and make insulin from it. Thus appeared the first drug produced by genetic engineering. This product constituted a major breakthrough in the history of transgenic technology. Later, the Netherlands developed a transgenic array implanted in human erythropoietin in 1992. Human erythropoietin could stimulate the production of red blood cells and is a useful medicine to cure people suffering from anemia. Through transgenic technique, the genes of different types of organisms could be rearranged, which means that humans could reform the hereditary characteristics of each organism and create a new lifestyle according to their own way of life.
