  • Essay / Saint Anthony of Padau - 692

Saint Anthony of PadauSaints come from all over the world. Everyone is unique in their own way. But for my part, I focused on one in particular. The saint I focus on is Saint Anthony of Padua. I chose Saint Anthony for two things: what he is the patron saint of. The Anthony patronages I focus on are lost objects and animals. I focus on lost items because I lose things often, so I find myself praying to him a bit. The reason why Anthony is the patron saint of lost things is that one day, while he was in Bologna, he had a book of psalms. The book of Psalms was then stolen. After discovering this, Anthony prayed to God for it to be returned to him. The next day, the thief returned the book and Anthony was eternally grateful. I focus on animals because animals are a very big part of my life and they make me very happy. That's why I thank Anthony for watching over all my animals and keeping them safe. It is noted that the reason why he is the patron of animals is that he was a very good companion and assistant to Frances of Asisis. Anthony was born as Fernando Martins in Lisbon, Portugal on August 11, 1195. His parents were Vincente Martins and Teresa. Taveira Country. Growing up, Fernando's family was very wealthy and noble, and well known in the city. As he had a lot of money, when Fernando was fifteen his family allowed him to go to school at a local cathedral. This school was taught by canons regular, priests living together under the rule of Saint Augustine, making the cathedral he attended the Augustinian of Saint Vincent. After attending the cathedral for two years, he asked to be transferred to the congregation's mother house, the Abbey of Santa Cruz de Coimbra. Coimbra was...... middle of paper ......d he transferred Anthony to the Franciscan Order of Romagna in Bologna. Being so exceptional in learning the Scriptures, the founder of the group, Saint Frances of Assisi, was very impressed. He thought that Antoine was a kindred spirit and, for this reason, he entrusted him with all the studies of one of his brothers. Antoine died on June 14, 1231, at the age of 36. His death was caused by a disease popular at the time, known as ergotism. On May 30, he was venerated by Pope Gregory IX in Sopleto. His body is buried in the church of Santa Maria Mater Domini. I think Saint Anthony was very important to our religion. He had a little difficulty becoming a disciple of Jesus, but he succeeded. It teaches us that if we lose something, we must never give up looking for it. He will guide us to find it. He still guides us today, to find our right path to becoming children of God.
