Siddhartha, an allegorical novel written by Hermann Hesse, primarily tells the story of an Indian, Siddhartha, and his quest for peace and wholeness in era of the Buddha. The story focuses on him leaving his family home in India to find this peace and wholeness, but the theme of this story is not just about Siddhartha, there is an underlying theme that demonstrates that Siddhartha is not the only person to seek this peace, and this quest is not only the theme of Siddhartha's story, but of many characters, including Siddhartha. Siddhartha's father, the Brahmin, is seeking peace, the Buddha had already found their peace and Siddhartha of course also seeks peace. The theme of the novel is the quest for peace and wholeness for all, and this not only proves true then, but it still proves true today. Deep down, peace and wholeness are what every human being desires, and unfortunately it is a quest that many people do not achieve in their lifetime.
