  • Essay / Anthem, By Ayn Rand - 990

Equality hopes to improve the future, while other citizens are almost afraid of change. He believes that new inventions and discoveries would improve the world not only for him, but also for his brothers, and even goes so far as to reinvent the light bulb, which he presents to the World Council of Scientists. Shortly after, they rejected him and threatened to have him “burned alive.” In addition to having been beaten, Equality is ashamed, because for everyone, "what is not thought by all men cannot be true", which consequently causes Equality to rush into the uncharted forest . Ayn Rand says, “A man thinks and works alone. A man cannot steal, exploit or rule alone(...) it implies dependence and is the prerogative of the latter.¨ Equality thinks and acts in its own way, rebelling against everything it has ever known. His struggle is real, from the beatings to the numbness to the harsh words thrown at him, but no matter what happens to him, he thinks about what could benefit the future and give men the rights that should never have been removed.
