Solution Implementation PlanReducing hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and helping hospitals become a safer place for patients is the responsibility of every employee. The first step in implementing the proposed innovation is to form a committee comprised of nurse educators from the intensive care units, medical-surgical units and the infection control department to help manage and become familiar with the description and solution of the project. Once the project is approved, implementation of this Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) innovation can begin. Nurse educators will appoint two charge nurses for each unit who demonstrate interest and sufficient specialized knowledge on the subject to communicate with staff nurses on the units. Once the responsible nurses are selected, the next step will be to train these nurses using the methods proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), which recently developed a concept called "My five moments for hand hygiene" (World Health Organization, 2012). An instructor's manual with materials focusing on WHO infection prevention information and a copy of the hospital hand hygiene policy will be made available for each training session, nurses in will receive copies during their training sessions. The Nurse Educator Committee will designate nurses responsible for the intensive care units and medical-surgical units to attend one of the training sessions held in the fourth floor auditorium beginning in June 2014. The nurse educator and the committee of nurses in infection prevention will have to ensure that the auditorium is available every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the training period.
