Stress Reduction Theory (SRT) proposes the idea that nature “posits a healing power of nature that resides in an unconscious, autonomous response to natural elements that occur without recognition and more particularly in individuals. who were stressed before the experience” (Bratman; Nature Experience, Cognitive Function and Mental Health). Scientists tested this theory through the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). By analyzing brain activity demonstrated in images, facial expressions and other factors indicating changes in emotion, scientists have therefore: children do not fully know their emotions and cannot describe what they feel in detail. The fMRI brain images indicated huge differences between the children who had had a nature experience before the brain scans (the control group) and those who had not. The second theory, attention restoration theory, "focuses the power of nature to replenish certain types of attention through conscious and cognitive processing in response to natural landscapes." Attention restoration theory (ART) has primarily focused on differences in the attention span and behavior of children living in urbanized areas compared to those living in greener areas. In a natural experiment, Taylor "compared children from the same population in a residential complex in Chicago, whose living conditions and demographics differed only in their view from their home: a small corner of an urban park or a barren concrete area. (Berman, Tennessen, Cimprich and Taylor; nature experience, cognitive function and mental function). Children in both domains demonstrated the effects of an environment on behavior and proved the theory of attention restoration. A minor
