It's not just about "helping an individual", it's about empowering them to make their own decisions based on what they believes it is best for his situation. Social workers help them by providing them with the tools, resources and support to do this. In high school and university, I volunteered over 3,500 hours. I have volunteered and collaborated with a number of social service agencies such as: Children's Home Society, Salvation Army, United Way, National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), and Center for Independent Living . My desire to give back through social work and volunteering stems from what I have endured throughout my life.
