Home vegetable gardening is practiced for various reasons by a number of people. One of the reasons why people grow vegetable gardens is due to the poor eating habits of the country. Another reason is the horrible state of the economy that the country is currently experiencing. People have had to adapt to a different lifestyle by growing gardens, which contributes to both unhealthy eating habits and a failing economy. Growing their own garden also allows people to save money on their grocery bills. Additionally, people grow gardens as a means of exercise and for the simple reason of harvesting tasty produce which can in turn be eaten fresh from the garden and can be canned or frozen for use during the winter months . Arohan said that “one of the reasons we grow our own vegetable gardens is to reduce stress.” It takes you away from the daily stress of work and the stress of the problems of today's world. Additionally, growing your own garden can provide you with a wider variety of vegetables that may not be available in local stores in your town. The economy has forced some of us to grow gardens because the price of food has skyrocketed and some people are also losing their jobs due to the economic crisis. When a person loses their job they have to do everything they can to save money so they can live this way, they grow their own vegetables because it is cheaper to grow your own food than to buy it. Therefore, in the long run, you will save money while improving your health by eating fresh, home-grown vegetables.
