What was the scramble for Africa and what was its impact on the African continent? The Scramble for Africa was the result of attempts by European countries to colonize Africa. The goal of many European countries was to acquire as much land as possible on the African continent. They wanted the land to benefit European countries more economically, culturally and politically. In doing so, the people of Africa have been forgotten and not taken into consideration. The majority of Africa has experienced imperialism. Imperialism is the practice of a country increasing its own power by taking control of other countries around the world. European countries struggled to take control of Africa. Their mission was to divide Africa and seize its natural resources. European countries wanted to succeed in dividing Africa and coexisting with each other. European countries wanted Africa for reasons such as imperialism and trade. The main reason for colonizing Africa was to gain additional land. Europeans wanted the land because the land presented various opportunities. Europeans wanted to spread the beliefs of Christianity. They also wanted to obtain slaves and free labor from the people of Africa. Another reason was to build ports of call to make trade to Asia easier and more efficient. European countries wanted to conquer Africa in order to meet the high demand for valuable goods like gold and diamonds. They also wanted a place to send criminals and the mentally disabled. Military and naval bases were also needed. The efforts of various countries to colonize Africa brought many benefits, but many problems also occurred. The partition of Africa was accompanied by many complications. For example, the weather conditions were... middle of paper...... we were forced to plant cash crops. Furthermore, the partition of Africa brought many positive aspects. Europeans provided African people with railways between cities and towns. When European cultures introduced Christianity to Africa, they taught Africans mathematics, science, and European languages. Although the partition of Africa brought many problems to Africa, it also brought wonderful technological advancements that modernized Africa. Many driving forces were behind the scramble for Africa, European imperialism being one of them. The partition of Africa brought many changes to the African continent. Economically, European countries colonized for trade and natural resources. Culturally, they wanted to propagate the beliefs of Christianity and express a sense of national pride. Politically, they also wanted more land.
