Fashion, success, reputation and material goods are what motivate men and women in the fashion industries. They will do anything to succeed. In the film The Devil Wears Prada, the protagonist, Andrea, landed in New York as an assistant to the editor-in-chief of Runway, a fashion magazine. Andrea demonstrated a complete rags to riches process. As she got more involved in her work, she discovered that it wasn't really what she wanted. People may seek power, reputation, and material goods; However, if people have to give up their souls, their lives, their dreams, and their loved ones in return, choosing to be ordinary can improve their lives. Andrea was a very ordinary woman, like most women. She got the job as assistant to the editor-in-chief, Miranda, at Runway magazine. Andrea was invisible in Runway's office; she made fun of the Runway girls and couldn't get along with them either. The girls at the show she called “Clackers” made jokes about Andrea because of her outdated dresses. She was told she was the worst assistant Miranda had hired. She decided to quit her job, but her mind wouldn't let her. She thought she could get a job at the magazine of her choice after a year of working with Miranda, and that was the reason she stayed. However, this proves to be a turning point in his entire life. She went from rags to riches and conquered every impossible mission her devil boss gave her. She asked her evil boss to confirm her abilities. However, her success did not make her happy; her friends and boyfriend left her because of her changes. After Andrea accidentally saw Miranda in all her glory, when she was just a woman with another divorce, Andrea was lost to...... middle of paper...... what she did to her boyfriend and his friends, but also because what she did betrayed her original purpose of being an assistant. Compare to lifelong friends, family, happiness, loved ones and especially dreams, success, power and reputation are like a moment of morning glory. This is accompanied by admiration and approval, but it does not last long. Thinking about Andrea, she had the material goods, powers, and admiration from her boss, but she is not happy. Miranda too, who achieved her success. If people have to give up so much to achieve their success, being ordinary may be their best choice. Works Cited “The Devil Wears Prada”. IMDb.
