    Violence against women is not a problem of today; it is rooted decades ago. It is present all over the world. The situation is getting worse day by day. It crosses all borders and all races. Violence against women is a very serious and sensitive problem as it constitutes one of the most widespread human rights violations, denying the fundamental rights of almost half of the population (women and girls). Domestic violence is much more drastic than external violence, because the home is a place. where the individual seeks love, security, safety and shelter, but we cannot deny the fact that it is also a place that puts lives at risk. Violence includes harassment, abuse, brutality, cruelty, physical harm or attempting to cause a woman to fear injury or psychological violence. The impact of physical violence may be more visible than psychological violence, but repeated humiliation, restriction of social mobility and denial of economic resources are more subtle and insidious forms of violence; makes a woman mentally destabilized and helpless. In India, patriarchy and gender discrimination are the main reasons for violence against women and girls. Violence against women is a global problem; it is a stigma for civilized society which forces intellectuals to focus on this alarming situation. Many laws are introduced every day to eradicate the problem, but it is not so easy to overcome it without waking up the society. In this article, we have tried to analyze the causes and their impact on the victims.Keywords: Violence, Discrimination, Patriarchal values.Around the world, India is known as a country of gods and goddesses where women are highly esteemed. But violence against women is drastic in India. This is not a current problem, violence... middle of paper ... mostly your understanding. Such teachings will certainly bring about a change in the boy's attitude; will make him polite and kind to his wife. The practice of child rearing in India needs to be changed on priority. Education will also help raise women's awareness of their legal rights. Women should try to become economically independent to cope with domestic violence.
