At the end of "Anthem", Prometheus realizes that his society's teachings and ideas have not been helpful to society's advancement. Ideas such as individuality, which society has tried to squeeze out of its inhabitants, are beneficial to society as a whole because men are expected to think for themselves. In the book, Prometheus made the light bulb when he was in society, but once he showed it to the World Council, they put him in prison. After this incident, he realized that no matter what brilliant things he invents, it will never be something that a particular company can use. At first he is confused, but realizing that he was acting like an individual made him realize that maybe society is the bad one and he is the good one. All of this made him realize that maybe he wasn't cut out for this and he's thrown into uncharted territory. He learns that men are supposed to think for themselves and that if they do, society will become more advanced and they will be able to move forward instead of staying in one place forever. This is how he realizes that his “sins” were actually good and that men are supposed to think for themselves. In Prometheus' society, being an individual is considered a "sin", but as events occur, Prometheus begins to understand that being an individual is the way men are supposed to think. At the beginning of the book, he has a name like everyone else, and like everyone else, he lives in a world that thrives on fear. Everyone is afraid to think, act or be different from others, because as society has taught them, being different and an individual is a “sin”. As he grew up, he noticed that he was somewhat different from the rest of the people. He didn't like many things, like the way society forced people to mate, because he thought it was despicable and grotesque. The older he grew, the more of an individual he became and this scared him, he even began to think of himself as a bad person. When he started playing with science and inventing things like the light bulb, it scared him, but then he thought that maybe even if he acted as an individual, the council would let it go because it was such a remarkable invention..
