People all over the world suffer from heart disease. At more than 15 million people, heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States. What exactly is heart disease? Heart disease is a disorder of the blood vessels of the heart. Heart disease cannot be cured. Once an individual is diagnosed with it, they will always have it. There are procedures that allow blood and oxygen to flow more comfortably to the heart. But unfortunately, the arteries will remain damaged, making a heart attack possible. “Risk factors are conditions or habits that make a person more likely to develop a disease and can also increase the chance that an existing disease will get worse. .” (“Lower risk of heart disease”). The main risk factors for heart disease are: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity, being physically active and a family history of heart disease. Unfortunately, family history of heart disease cannot be changed in any way. There is no ethnic group that is not affected by heart disease.
