    Dr. Posner knew Vivian before she became one of his patients, but he knew her as Doctor Bearing who taught his poetry class. The film showed him struggling during the delicate examination he had to perform on Vivian, particularly the first one. Doctor Posner was not very good at interacting with patients as a doctor, he did not care about privacy or precautions, and was not very kind when interacting with Vivian. He didn't really like Vivian because of a personal problem they had when Vivian was his teacher and it showed throughout the movie. One of his worst moments with Vivian was after she passed away, even though she was DNR he still called a code. On top of that, chest compressions and mouth to mouth were started. He deliberately went against her wishes by trying to bring her back to life so they could continue her treatment and conduct more research. The moment that showed his true colors was when Vivian asked him why he wanted to become a doctor of oncology. His answer about going into research and finding out why cancer cells behave the way they do really showed that he cared. And that also explained why his mansion next to the bed was missing, because he wanted to be behind a desk somewhere without interacting with
