Essay / Celebrity Obsession - 763
Much of today's society seems obsessed with what actors/actresses, athletes and musical artists wear, eat, who they marry, date , where they spend their vacations, what adventures they have or have and how they live their daily lives. What's so interesting about this obsession is that as a society we are relentless and often place celebrities on a pedestal, only to destroy them when they are delusional or promiscuous. The media is quick to point out when celebrities are in trouble, but quickly forgets all of their accomplishments. It's like we want them to be perfect, but once they become associated with a scandal, we are committed to destroying their reputation and character. Should society hold celebrities to higher standards just because they get paid millions for endorsements and a craft they've worked hard to perfect? Do we, as a society, have the right to castigate celebrities when they behave badly? Do celebrities have the right to become furious when their immoral behavior is criticized? Do they like media attention only when it benefits them? Before we can answer the questions above, could we, furthermore, live our celebrity lives if given the opportunity? The perks of unlimited wealth, vacations all over the world, housekeepers, chefs, designer gifts, multiple homes in various parts of the world, drivers, the best food and all the other perks that come with being a celebrity? Do they all look attractive? Of course, for those of us who want to live a fabulous life. The question is: do we want to suffer the downfalls that come with fame? Can we handle the tabloid scrutiny, fabrications and assumptions? Being a celebrity has its perks, but at what cost? Fame and my ...... middle of paper ...... focus on lifestyles? Is he wrong, in the eyes of God, yes, but do we have the right to judge him? Ultimately, in my opinion, all Tiger owes us is his dedication to golf, if that matters to you. Likewise, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have been inviolable since taking office. The media has only focused on the negative aspects of what they have done since coming to power. What can we do after only one year in office? After all, he's cleaning up the mess left by our last administration. I never thought I would see disrespect and contempt for a president who has the best interests of Americans and who, so far, is running a fairly honest administration. Don’t we all need healthcare? Don’t we all want our jobs to stay in the United States? Don't we all want to be safe in our homes, airports and workplaces ??
