This specific study was intended for students who do not have ties to school-promoted sports, sororities, or fraternities. The data shows that among those who drank in the previous month, the minimum amount of drinks in a single sitting was five and the maximum was eighteen drinks, which is shocking. Twenty-two students volunteered to participate in this study, but of these, fourteen met the requirement of non-affiliation with sports or social clubs and were considered high-risk drinkers. Five major themes were identified in this study. The first major theme was that unaffiliated students, regardless of gender, engage in risky drinking habits. The second theme is that students will “pre-play” before heading to a party. “Pre-gaming” is when a person drinks lightly before attending a party where they will then begin drinking heavily. The third theme discovered is that students participate in drinking games at these parties, further encouraging alcohol consumption. The fourth theme found by Smith, Finneran, and Droppa was that of consequences.
