LEADERSHIP AND CORRUPTION IN NIGERIAIntroduction:Leadership has always been one of the best factors to consider in determining the purpose of a society or community, no matter the size of a community. could be; it must have a leader if it wants to develop and harmonize (Ushakov). Leadership has always played an important role in developing countries, or anywhere in the world. It is very difficult to find a society functioning without a leader, whether in an urban or rural area. Leadership has been broadly defined as how a single person takes responsibility for leading a community toward a common goal (Ushakov 2). Of course, there are many types, or rather styles. Different people lead in many different ways, whether it is advantageous (benefits society) or disadvantageous (detriments society) depends on the visions and agendas proposed by the leader. Some rulers tend to use force to try to achieve their goals, for example Alexander the Great, King of Macedon; while some leaders use their charismatic abilities to influence people to achieve their goals, for example Mahatma Ghandi. Corruption, on the other hand, is always a bad decision in any society. It doesn't matter in a community. This leads to lack of trust, lack of unity, selfishness and lowers the standards of society. By general definition of corruption, it always means dishonesty and an act involving bribery (Stevenson). The higher the corruption of a society, the more the problems of that society coalesce until they reach a major point.
