He had the idea of inventing sturdy pants for gold miners in California during the Gold Rush. When he started out, he wanted to create jeans for the working class. It all started in Europe when Levi heard about a fabric called overalls when he saw the Italian Navy wearing this fabric. He discovers that this fabric comes from India. He liked that this fabric was washed and dried quickly. Additionally, this fabric makes the fabric strong and durable. When Levi returned to the United States, he decided to start his pants company.
