  • Essay / Artemis: The Great Orion - 1155

Artemis? The beauty with an enigmatic character? Yes, I chose it because it can do everything with its different features. She lived for new challenges and was the most independent of the goddesses. Many people in this society would consider her a feminist and would also use her bow and arrows as a symbol of a hunter. Artemis is as brave and strong as any man, and can hunt and kill any beast. The myth I will be evaluating for the next three sites is "The Great Orion". He has many different aspects/perspectives but to summarize, Artemis fell in love with this handsome hunter, Orion. In an attempt to keep him from renouncing his vows of chastity, his brother, Apollo, bet him to hit a small black target in the distance with his bow and arrows. Unaware that the target was Orion, who was enjoying a swim, she hit him with the first shot, killing her "future lover". She placed Orion among the stars because of melancholy. Others {Tell me a story: Artemis and Orion, a Greek myth} say that Apollo sent a scorpion to kill Orion first in his dreams and then when he woke up (either out of jealousy in their relationship or to keep the honor of his sister intact). . I chose this particular myth because Orion was her first crush, maybe even her love interest, and while I thought it was cute, it led to a heartbreaking/miserable ending. In Greek mythology, Artemis (also named Diana in Roman) was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, the titan goddess of the invisible. Minutes after her birth, she helped her mother give birth to her twin brother, Apollo. Her father praised her actions by promising to give her whatever she wanted in return. Artemis asked to be able to live in chastity, to be celibate all her life and...... middle of paper ......g what I accomplished, I discovered many things. I've always liked the idea of women having similar characteristics to boys, just because I feel like most women are becoming lazy or too feminine these days (disguising themselves for money , marrying rich men, etc.), so it's really eye-opening to see what Artemis did. She is everything a girl should be (besides living chaste all our lives, we have to reproduce to survive...) smart, strong, independent and wanting to be the best that she can be. If Artemis were to offer any life lessons, it would be to stand up for what you believe in and accept yourself, to be kind and gentle but firm and strong, to be honest with yourself and others, and finally to stand up for those who are weaker than you. Artemis represents beauty and strength in women. She was a great goddess who shows her best self. .
