Survey data from nurses working shifts longer than thirteen hours increased patient dissatisfaction with care (Stimpfel, Sloane and Aiken, 2012). Additionally, nurses working shifts of ten hours or more were up to two and a half times more likely than those working shorter shifts to experience burnout and job dissatisfaction. Long shifts harm nurses' well-being, can lead to turnover, and negatively impact patient care.
