    Track and field is a form of exercise that has historically given talented individuals the opportunity to display their athleticism through events such as sprinting, relays and long jump. Athletics is also a form of challenge because it gives the athlete a chance to see who is the best in the world because in athletics you compete against other players from around the world and districts. The event distance was set at 42.195 km; The marathon was introduced during these games to commemorate the race of Pheidippides, who ran from the marathon to Sparta to get help and break the news to the Persians when they landed and the distance covered was 149 miles. The sport of track and field got its start in the United States in the 1860s.
