  • Essay / Job shadowing and interview with Media Center Coordinator

Since I was in high school when I had the opportunity to intern at the elementary school library, I have found a niche in the library world. On Friday, February 14, I had the opportunity to interview and observe Amy Bowman, the Community Schools Media Center Coordinator. Having these two experiences with Amy really proved to me that I wanted to work in the library science field after I graduated from college. Amy began her post-secondary education at State University. She graduated in 2002 with a degree in education with an emphasis in English and a minor in social studies. Amy ended up teaching English for a few years after graduation. Then she decided, after a few years of teaching, to return to university and obtain her MLS (Master in Library Science) degree. She received her MLS degree in 2007 from State University. Amy shared with me that receiving her master's degree was probably the best thing she had done in her life. She shared with me that she would recommend getting your master's degree regardless of your future career. She mentioned how her experience was very laborious at the time, but looking back, she feels like it made her a more well-rounded person in the career she is in now. As I mentioned before, Amy is the Media Center Coordinator. in community schools. Her work constantly keeps her on her toes day after day, even year after year. She mentioned that her job is constantly changing and she really never knows what to expect. Amy talked about how diversity and constant change can be crazy sometimes, but she could never imagine doing a different job than she has today. Change is actually one of Amy's favorite men... middle of paper ......becomes non-existent and I won't be needed in the future. But to me it all seems like gibberish. I found something I'm passionate about and I'm going to pursue it. Even though how a librarian is perceived today may be different in the future, you will still need that “expert Googler” or person to help you find the perfect book for you.
