  • Essay / Ignorance - 820

How does the amount of information someone knows affect the decisions that person makes? According to a survey by The National Interest, thirty-one percent of Americans can't name the vice president of the United States, and that's where they live. The level of ignorance displayed in America is frightening, as it could explain why events happened in the past and perhaps could have prevented them. It is believed that the amount of propaganda used is probably the best explanation for why most Americans are oblivious to events occurring in society; but what does this mean for America? Ignorance is harmful to America because it allows people to be blinded and deceived not only by the government of the country they live in, but also by the governments of other countries; which could ultimately prevent people from not only reacting to situations, but also preventing them from happening in the first place. How many people know the vice president Yes (%) 16% 58% 37% 35% 29% 13% No (%) 84% 42% 63% 65% 71% 87% Age group 0-18 years 19- 25 26-40 41-55 56-70 71+(Huffington Post)Ignorance has been accepted in America in many ways, one being the law. “In most countries, the law recognizes that a person who acts in ignorance of the facts of his act should not be held criminally responsible” (Britannica Encyclopedia). This means that it is acceptable to do wrong as long as the person does not know it is wrong, because they are not informed of the situation and not of the law which allows them to get away with it without issue. This system being based on trust, and not on physical proof that the person was not aware, it allows the law to be deceived and allows possible criminals to escape. The law says that "when the defendant has good ...... middle of paper ...... average." If Americans can't judge, then why are they always fighting with homosexuals and implying that if you're not heterosexual, then you're not part of the master race. Why fight when loving is easier. Combat is one of the most dominant forms of ignorance in America. Showing dominance through physical contact makes Americans appear weak-minded and too stubborn and unwilling to make the changes necessary to create peace with the nation. This allows foreigners to enter the country and take advantage of America's weak areas. This is due to constant infighting while the real enemies lie outside the borders. It also allows politicians to hide the eyes of Americans, so that they are not aware of the current situation, because they are too busy arguing and competing with each other. Why would you want
