    Every summer, I went to California to visit my grandparents. My grandmother always bought me a pair of patent leather slides, a most precious possession. That year, I chose the white ones. Once I got home, I hurried to get settled in so I could run to my best friend's house to show her my amazing shoes. She opened the door, looked down and saw them.
