The connection he makes in his desire to unify with those around him is refreshing. He uses the word “enrich,” which in its general sense means the act of making greater. Feeling broadened by the influx of diversity and culture has a positive implication on our lives. This creates opportunities that would otherwise be more difficult to achieve. Language varies by culture; not just foreign culture. No matter where you live in the United States, accents are easy to understand. In the northern states we call soft drinks "pop", while in the south, regardless of flavor, they are called "coke". Significant differences in daily lifestyles are noted between the east and west coasts. A much more fast-paced lifestyle is practiced on the east coast, while on the west coast a more laid-back lifestyle is normal. Dress codes speak their own language. Most of the fashion shows organized by designers take place in New York. Indeed, the East Coast is known for having a stricter dress code than any major city in the southern region of the United States. Shopping centers are good places to see this difference. Casual clothing is usual in southern malls, while casual clothing is a very common dress code on the east coast. Dress codes are a way of communicating social status. It is considered respectful and consistent with good social norms to wear designer clothing. While it is financially possible for many of us to wear brands such as “Old Navy”, “H&M” and “Levi” on a daily basis. What we carry is a language clearly understood by our social peers. Our appearance says a lot about who we are and what our financial situation is like.
