    IntroductionThe Victorian era is a remarkable period in history with thriving industries, a growing population, and a major turnaround in the world of fashion. This era is named after Queen Victoria who ruled the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from June 1837 until her death 64 years later in January 1901. When Victoria received the crown, popular respect was surprisingly low. The lack of respect for the position she had just held did not diminish her confidence. Instead, she won the hearts of Britain through her modesty, grace, candor and desire to be informed on current political issues, even if she had no input. She made Britain a thriving country. She also influenced the way women interacted during this time based on their personalities. Body During the period of Queen Victoria's reign, the British population alone had grown from 10 million in the early 1800s to more than 26 million by 1870. It is now home to more than a quarter of the world's population. At its peak, the empire was the largest in history. The Industrial Revolution in Britain had fantastic results, such as huge technological revolutions and a dramatic increase in the production of iron, coal and cotton. This increase in population and industrialization flooded the cities with peasants looking for work. Most of these people lived in poverty and dangerous conditions. It was during this time that the first railroad came into existence, allowing people to spread out and not congregate in cities. Even though people dispersed, many still lived in slums and working conditions were atrocious. Between 1833 and 1844, the Factory Act was finalized to control child labor.
