Some of Zappos's core values are building relationships through open and honest communications, building a positive team, and accepting and driving change, to name a few. For me, the most rewarding core value and illustration of socialization described by a Zappos employee is “Providing WOW Service.” WOW service delivery incorporates honesty, trust and a sense of building relationships with others. Zappos employees demonstrate such pride that they inherit the message communicated by the company which carries over into their personal lives and will influence their social identity. “Relational communication contributes to the identification of individuals with an organization or to a feeling of “belonging” to their work environment. (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, p. 31) The functional tradition would view my response differently if the company's message was not delivered in the form of organizational and people communication. For example, if the Zappos message were delivered as organizational communication as meaning, behaviors would constantly change as these interactions would create multiple realities and perceptions that would become the process by which meanings are created.
