According to MailOnline, having lots of friends in real life and on social media can ultimately make people less sociable and increase sadness. Many people in today's society might consider themselves happy, but it's actually the opposite. Having lots of friends makes people feel like they don't need to be outgoing and can eventually make them unhappy. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the same problem is present in the futuristic society. Almost every character in the book is either always on some sort of device or so absorbed in robotic society that they never take the time to think about things. This causes discontent for many, but not all, characters in the book. There are still a few who take the time to think and are not always on a device. Clarisse is one of the few people in the book who takes the time to think. Montag, the main character, realizes this while they are talking: "'You think too much,' Montag says worriedly. "I rarely look at the living room walls, I rarely go to races or amusement parks. So I have a lot of time for crazy thoughts, I suppose" (pages 3, 4). In the futuristic society in which Fahrenheit 451 takes place, Clarisse is considered crazy because of her thoughts; but without his thoughts, Montag would never have dared to find true happiness. Clarisse is one of the only people in history to be truly happy. Paul David Walker of Huffpost writes: “As we lose touch with the living reality of life around us, we begin to feel bad.
