Essay / Impact of Environmental Problems in Malaysia - 1991
ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS IN MALAYSIAAccording to the Oxford Dictionary, global warming can be defined as "a progressive increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increasing levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs and other pollutants. Historically, global warming started in the 1970s in Malaysia. Meanwhile, Tun Hussein Onn, as Prime Minister of Malaysia, had initiated larger projects to carry out terraced plantations in the Felda region. In contrast, when Tun Dr. Mahathir inherited his legacy, Malaysia was becoming one of the developing countries in the world, along with Indonesia, Thailand, India and other countries. Overall, Dr Tun Mahathir highlighted innovations, developments and industrial sectors, including Malaysia's first automobile product, 'Proton'. As a result, we are facing various environmental problems in Malaysia due to the increasing temperature. In this regard, current environmental problems have been clearly identified in Malaysia. Global warming has had negative effects on the environment, just in the case of forest fires. This is due to the sudden increase in temperature which, in turn, causes the land and ocean to evaporate. The heat of a fire season certainly takes a long time to subside. Unexpectedly, fires are able to release nutrients used for plant growth that would decompose very slowly. In early 2014, citizens of Pahang were suffering from forest fires. Several new outbreaks of bushfires were reported along Jalan Kuantan-Pekan and the road was even closed twice to all vehicles due to heavy smoke. Smoke from forest fires or open fires can then cause haze which is also a major effect of global warming...... middle of paper...... with natural resources and technology . From an economic point of view, in order to reduce the previously mentioned effects of global warming, namely forest fires, haze, mobile air pollution, greenhouse gases, flash floods and droughts, Malaysians should use more environmentally friendly products. Furthermore, the public is encouraged to use public transportation frequently and more awareness campaigns should be organized to educate them about environmental issues. To achieve sustainable development goals, Malaysians should launch more reforestation programs. From the point of view of law, the Malaysian government should impose the law strictly on those who commit offenses against environmental issues, especially global warming. Overall, Malaysians should be sensitive to our every action to ensure that the prosperity of this land remains for future generations..
