In the northern part of the earth and on the upper slopes of all the mountains in the world, there is a unique biome called tundra. The tundra is one of the coldest and harshest biomes in the world. Winters are long and cold and summers are short and cool. The tundra is far from the equator; therefore, tundra soil is generally nutrient poor. Since the biome is covered in snow throughout the year, the arctic tundra does not appear to be a place where plants and animals can survive.
