    People who struggle with drug and/or alcohol addiction are more likely to have successful recovery than those who do not. Children, mental health clients, and recovering substance abusers all report using less or reducing their substance use if they engage in some sort of religious activity. It has been evaded that the God theory works because religion promotes better family life, focusing more on school or work, associating with individuals who do not promote substance use, and by instilling an anti-drug attitude in the individual (Fagan). As we all know, self-esteem is an important aspect of living a happy and healthy life. Religion is one of the reasons why some individuals find peace and happiness within themselves and provides them with an increased sense of well-being (Fagan). Obtaining membership in a religious organization has been shown to decrease stress from work-related issues, while increasing a person's coping skills. Indeed, they frequently come together in prayer, support each other and in their religious practices, while evaluating their situation through a religious perspective.
