Essay / Why People Tell a Lie by Sam Harris Essay - 1635
In the book, the author explained in detail the mirror of honesty, white lie, trust, faint praise, secrets, extreme lies and integrity. He explained that most of us are now painfully aware that our trust in government, business and many public institutions has been undermined by lies. The author describes big lies that have crystal-hardened many of us to reflexively distrust those in positions of authority. As a result, it is currently not possible to mention anything substantial about global climate change, environmental pollution, human nutrition, politics, foreign conflicts, pharmaceuticals and dozens of different topics without that a major proportion of the audience express paralyzing doubts about even the most valuable sources of information. Our public discourse seems definitely torn apart by conspiracy theories. I agree with the author in many of his opinions. An obvious example that can be described here is how people tease others and become offensive when the opposite is done by other members of society.
