  • Essay / Competitive gaming as a career? - 1150

What are your thoughts on competitive gaming as a career? For my part, I see it as the next major competition, like football or basketball, and I would happily jump at the chance if I get the chance, but for others, this idea would be considered laughable. For many male gamers, competitive gaming as a career is something they have thought about at least once in their lives. It's the ultimate dream of most gamers: to get paid to play video games. For female gamers, however, it's a little harder to imagine such a career and there are many good reasons why women don't typically choose competitive gaming as a career. Team Siren prides itself on being the first all-female team in League of Legends, but was forced to disband about a month after the team's creation. In sports, as well as competitive games, people watch the game to see a high level of play, men or women, it's all about performance. When Team Siren along with every other female/male team and player sacrifices their talent for a chance to make a quick buck, the competitive gaming community shows that their gimmicks wouldn't last more than the 15 minutes of fame that gave them are allocated. And that's more or less the point of competitive gaming, the playing field is level, there are no advantages or disadvantages, regardless of your gender, religious beliefs or race..
