Essay / Examining the positives of teamwork
What is the key to success? In the world today, cooperation is visible everywhere, people manage to achieve their anticipated goal through everyone's mutual efforts. Humanity understood the importance of teamwork from the earliest times. Nowadays, the idea of collaboration is still ingrained in people's minds when working in teams. Say no to plagiarism. Instead of losing hope, they came together more as a team. Thanks to their efforts, the French language was recognized in Parliament and their culture was supported. French Canadians inspired other groups to work as a team to overcome difficulties. Without their attempts, Canada might still be solely an English-speaking community and would not be the bilingual society we currently live in. Looking back, when individuals leave their differences behind and work toward a common goal, can they achieve success. In our society, a small task often involves collaboration when there are more participants. Recently, joining the Gleneagle High School Volunteer Club during this summer school taught me multiple communication skills. Gleneagle has organized a series of activities encouraging students and teachers to donate to the charity SHARE. SHARE is an independent, nonprofit community organization that helps Tri-Cities residents cope with economic challenges. In order to get more donations, we have sold freezies, bags of candy and brownies during breaks as a club, and every step of the way involves teamwork. Specifically, the procedure for creating the candy bags worked much faster the second time around because we were more experienced at it. In order to finish making twenty bags before break, we found the quickest way was to work together: each person stays with one type of candy and takes a few to place in the plastic candy bag I'm holding by hand. Finally, we could be proud of the donations we have made to SHARE as a club, hoping that they will help more residents in need. On the other hand, failed collaborations also took place during my last school year. I am a student in the International Baccalaureate program at Port Moody High School, and last year all IB students had to come up with an interdisciplinary project based on the theme of community. As we were randomly assigned to groups, the four members of my group didn't know each other, so we all felt very uncomfortable at first. Even though we had the entire school year to work on this project, we were never able to come together as a full group for every meeting, due to the lack of communication we had about our different schedules. As a result, our rate of progress was much slower than that of the other teams. So we didn't miss the scheduled day while disappointing the teacher. Fortunately, our teacher had given us a precious second chance. We finally sat down as a group and started exchanging ideas and coming up with a new presentation. From this experience, I really learned that when a group of individuals work together, there is bound to be friction due to different points of view..
