    Scoot M. Myers conducted research beginning in 1980 on religious inheritance procedures in families. He interviewed 471 parents in 1980 and their adult offspring in 1992, addressed the effects of childhood, parental and family influences on the religiosity of adult offspring, the factors that conditioned the ability of parents to transmit their religiosity and how recent experiences of adult offspring modify their religiosity. Previous family influences on religiosity. According to the results, three variables influence the impact of religion on adult offspring. Among these three variables were parental religiosity, family relationship quality, and traditional family structure. Many studies have shown that research on the effect of parents' religiosity on their offspring's religiosity yields inconsistent results. Researchers have found that parental influence has a large impact on church attendance during adolescence, but as the child gets older, this impact diminishes. Studies have also shown that parents' influence on religion is highly dependent on the religion in which they practice. The accumulation of religious capital during childhood also depends heavily on the transmission of religion from parents to their offspring. Finally, events, experiences, and traditions within the family are a major contributing factor to the influence of religion on adult offspring. Researchers examined the factors stated above in heterosexual parent homes.
