Essay / Marriage in Will Weaver's A Tombstone Made of Wheat
Even through death, love endures. Inge and Olaf lived a long and happy life together. “He also knew that few dreams could be better than this one. And in his long life with Inge, none were” (25). They had two children, Harry and Einar. When Inge died, Olaf was forbidden by law from burying her on the farm and he had to make the difficult decision to cover her grave, but he knew her family would remember and love her. “She was only real,” thought Olaf, “to those who knew her and loved her. Olaf suddenly understood that she had to stay like that. As in his life, his death” (25). Even if Inge's grave were to remain secret, the people who loved her will always remember her presence, reinforcing the theme of lifelong love.
