  • Essay / Nature versus nutrition: are people born to kill? - 1338

    I. The question of whether serial killers are born with the desire to kill or whether they are truly victims of their environment is a hotly debated question today both by psychologists and the FBI. A serial killer is traditionally defined as someone who kills 3 or more people at different times with "cooling off" periods between killings. Psychological abuse in childhood and psychological disorders are the cause of the murder. The nature versus nurture debate is best applied to the behaviors and mysterious cases of serial killers, their upbringing, and their environment. Nature is the genetic and biological connections a person possesses, personality traits, and how genetic makeup relates to a killer. Education looks at the upbringing and environment a person is in that affects who they become. In some cases, however, it is solely the effects of upbringing or biological problems that motivate some serial killers to commit crimes. Although there is no definitive answer on which plays the most important role: nature or nurture, both of these factors contribute to making one a serial killer. These deviants of society are afflicted with educational problems or suffer from psychological disorders and are able to blend into our daily lives without apparent differences, but they sow chaos through their remorseless murders.II. Common psychological disorders during the stages of creating a serial killer are seen in childhood and are usually based on mental and psychological abuse suffered by a child.
