  • Essay / Biography of Harry S Truman - 1588

Harry S. TrumanHarry S. Truman was born on May 8, 1884, on the farmlands of Lamar, Missouri. He was given the middle name S because his grandfather's first names began with the letter S. In 1890, the Truman family moved to Independence, Missouri, where Harry went to school and was a student very intelligent. (Generally speaking, paragraphs should be 4 to 5 sentences long. Sometimes shorter lengths are acceptable.) Truman was always close to his mother whom he called "Mama" and came to her for everything. Even when Harry became president, his mother was the first person he consulted when making big decisions. In his early years, Harry had to wear thick glasses due to his poor vision. Growing up, Harry wanted to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, but his poor eyesight prevented him from being accepted. Truman's family did not have much money, which prevented him from going to college. After graduating from high school in 1901, he worked as a bank clerk along with other jobs. Five years after graduating from high school, he spent more than a decade working with his father on the family's 600-acre farm near Grandview, Missouri. While working on the family farm, Truman served in the Missouri National Guard. In 1917, when America entered World War I, Truman was in his early 30s and re-enlisted in the National Guard and was sent to France. In 1919, upon returning from the war, Truman married Elizabeth “Bess” Wallace, his childhood friend. The Trumans had one daughter, Mary. Mary grew up to become a singer and author of numerous novels. (mention the novels if you can) In 1922, Truman, with the support of Kansas City political leader Thomas Pendergast, was elected district judge of Jackson County, Missouri. In 1926, Harry was in the middle of a paper...in the wrong direction. He ordered the eagle's head to be sewn the right way.• Harry's favorite food was steak.• In France he was a captain in Battery D.• His favorite saying is "If you can't stand heat, get out of the kitchen. "• Read the Bible three times.• His first grade teacher was Myra Ewing,• Gave most of his speeches on the radio. Few people think about past presidents unless their name comes up in daily life like George Washington for being our first President, or Abraham Lincoln for freeing the slaves If you really think about it, Harry Truman did something that changed the world He put the United States on the right path and obliged! Japan to surrender, which few people in the world could do. He has done as much as any other president in the past. I think people should recognize him as much as any other president...
