    The Power of Compliance is an experiment conducted by Solomon Asch that will help us understand why people conform to things they know are right. In his experiment, the independent variable is the number of correct answers given by the confederates or even the number of incorrect answers, it all depends on whether Asch told them to say the correct or incorrect answer at that moment. The dependent variable is the number of responses given by participants. Asch knew there was a reason why everyone followed in someone's footsteps, especially if they had friends, but he couldn't understand why. He understood that some things followed social norms and that even if this person didn't believe in the norm, it was more than likely that they would accept the social norm just to not be seen as an outcast. But why do so many people cling to strangers on such simple answers? That's when Asch decided to do some research to try to understand why people decide to be so conformist.
