  • Essay / Remedial Education Essay - 1006

I thought I was perfectly prepared for a college-level education until I took the college placement test. I discovered that some of the high school curriculum did not improve my learning skills or help me gain the knowledge I needed to succeed in college-level courses. When I took the college placement test at Seminole State College, it showed that I had to take remedial classes to help me gain the knowledge I need to succeed in college-level courses. When I read the article titled “Remedial Education: A Field in Need of Scholar-Practitioners,” my opinion on remedial education changed. Everyone, including adults who have never taken an ACT, SAT, or other test, to see if they are academically ready for college-level courses, should take remedial courses to help them better prepare for university courses. Before, I felt embarrassed because I had to take remedial courses, but there is no need to be embarrassed because in the end, it helps me to deepen my knowledge of certain courses required for the college level.
