Throughout this semester, we have examined many issues, policies, and procedures that affect the way law enforcement officers law behave, carry out their duties and interact with the general public and segments of the population. the public on a smaller scale. New technological advances are being developed to prevent crime and improve the performance of law enforcement officers. However, we all know very little about why and how certain advances are accepted, and the sanctions imposed by technology have led to solutions to the crime problem. In this essay, we will examine new technological advancements developed within law enforcement and how they affect the performance and daily routines of officers working today. Technological advancements in law enforcement are often divided into hard technology and soft technology. We often see hard technologies implemented to stop crime, such as ubiquitous security cameras, baggage screening, bulletproof windows, metal detectors, and security systems in businesses and homes. Additionally, the use of private protection devices such as maces, Tasers, emergency lifeline devices, and ignition interlock systems with alcohol sensors to prevent someone from starting a vehicle drunk is observed. Technological advances used by law enforcement officers include new weapons, the use of instruments of force, improved patrol cars, and new police protective equipment. Soft technology involves the strategic use of data to stop crime and improve police performance. Advances in soft technology include new classification systems, computer code programs, crime analysis techniques, and information sharing techniques.
