Essay / The Meaning of Annabel Lee - 817
The human heart is a remarkably powerful thing. He pushes people, beats faster whenever necessary, and won't give up even if he is told to. Most importantly, the heart undoubtedly keeps that person alive and moving. The timeless concept of “speaking from the heart” appears across many mediums: singing, writing, and of course speaking are just a few of these methods of communication. Even if someone comes across as enigmatic, inaccessible, and even gloomy, others may have difficulty listening to someone speaking from the heart. However, one person who I am certain can inspire people to listen to what his heart has to say is Edgar Allan Poe and his literature. That being said, when I hear the words of Edgar Allan Poe slip out of someone's mouth, I imagine a mysterious and not-quite-understood, yet very well-known man, with inner emotions aflame and passionate. Many considered him a strange and mysterious person through his writings, and continue to do so today. Regardless of others' thoughts regarding Poe as a living being, very few people can deny the depth of intense and profound emotions he expresses through his heartfelt writings. Therefore, I can conclude that his poem "Annabel Lee" is a direct reference to the undoubtedly interesting life he led, as well as the deep love he felt for his wife, Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe. In this literary work, there is a boy and a girl who are absolutely in love with each other and feel like they could spend the rest of their lives together in this place. When the author says, “In a kingdom by the sea” (Poe 2), I immediately think of a dark beach. In my mind's eye I see the couple on a beach with a still ocean on one side and a flat landscape... middle of paper... although I understand that hormones can flare up at a young age. age for boys and girls, leading them to have these feelings for each other, regardless of what people with more life experiences think. Poe states in his poem: “But our love was far stronger than the love / Of those who were older than us / Of many wiser than we” (27-29), which reinforces my thoughts on the matter of age. Poe had extremely different thoughts than those around him, given that most of the events in the author's life were extremely rare. Therefore, Poe's life is not often experienced by an ordinary man, and his extraordinary life is undoubtedly exhibited in his literature.
