Many fantasy plots can often share similarities, whether it's about mystical creatures or the never-ending struggle between good and evil. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and The Lord of the Rings by JRRTolkien are two books that share a common thought. Although at first glance the stories seem to have no similarities; with Frankenstein being about a young man taking experimental science too far, and The Lord of the Rings following the journey of fantastical people on their quest to destroy an all-powerful ring. But if we carefully examine the characters in these plots, we can find a plausibility between Victor Frankenstein and the creature Gollum. The two characters Victor Frankenstein and Gollum are very similar in many ways; in their desire to have something that is not theirs, being blind in ignorance, and ultimately diminished by the one thing for which they sacrificed everything. “Ignorance is the curse of God; knowledge is the wing with which we fly to heaven” (William Shakespeare).
