The mother notices that the child has symptoms different from those of a healthy baby. She is worried because the baby is not babbling or responding to her voice. During the child's appointment with the doctor, the mother tells the child that her baby is rather quiet and does not hear his name being called. The doctor performs a scan of the boy's brain and notices that the child's brain exhibits abnormal brain function. He also performs other tests in order to make a correct diagnosis. As he returns to tell the mother what is wrong with her little boy, he wonders what the outcome of the news will be. He tells the mother that her little boy has ASD, which stands for autism spectrum disorder. The mother cries, knowing that her son will not have a normal life. However, she and her son are not alone; it is estimated that 1 in 54 boys are diagnosed with autism here in the United States (Autism Speaks). In the United States, more than 2 million people have autism; more than 10 million people worldwide have autism. It is not a disease; It is classified as a learning disability. There is no cure, but there is a way to help the child. With therapy and medication, autism symptoms may decrease. It may take time, but with hard work and determination there will be great improvements in the patient (What is Autism). Autism is a word that refers to a wide range of developmental disorders that some people are born with or develop early in life. Doctors call this autism spectrum disorder because there are many types of autism spectrum disorders. The autistic person will face many problems, such as social interactions, making friends and talking to others, as well as the habits that autistic people must learn to control these impulses and speak properly. There are many types of help that can decrease autism symptoms, some of which involve therapy sessions. There are certain types of therapy that involve the use of animals during appointments, such as dogs. If that doesn't work, certain medications can reduce the anxiety that can cause autism symptoms, such as Prozac. Autism is a very difficult disability to manage in the life of family, friends, at school and at work. Although autism is lifelong, once you are diagnosed, time, hard work and determination will significantly improve the autistic person's symptoms...
